P2P-Next Project Technical Trial

NextShare is a technology being researched by an EU funded project called P2P-Next in which 20 partners from EU member states are collaborating to produce a multimedia delivery platform based on peer-to-peer (P2P) over which audio and video can be delivered over the Internet. For more information on the project please visit the P2P-Next project website.

User Engagement

One of the key goals of this project is engagement with users throughout the development process of the platform. This lets you get a taste of what the technology can provide during its development as well as providing valuable results on the performance and capabilities of the system. In addition to these short-term technical trials we will also be running some long term deployments of the service. You can register your interest for other trials here.

This Trial

This short-term two week technical trial is designed to test of the platform's ability to stream HD content over the Internet using peer-to-peer (P2P). As it is only a first test, you may encounter some problems. Current known issues are no Mac and Linux support, no Windows 64-bit support, and strange behavior on some video cards. Please report issues via the Support page.

If you are up for some testing, simply follow the instructions below to watch a BBC R&D TV produced video, showing highlights and interviews from the TEDx Manchester Event in October 2009.
